Black Fury: Hard hitting melodrama in reference to exploitation of coal miners, with Muni as a strong “hunk” who gets in over his head. Practical, and remarkably filmed, but it’s a tad choppy. Muni’s accent makes it hard to comprehend him at times. Cast includes Paul Muni, Karen Morley, William Gargan, Barton MacLaue, John Qualen, J. Carrol Naish, and Vince Barnett. (92 minutes,’35)

Gus: The football kicking mule leads a last-place team to success; crooks try to abduct Gus with typical outcomes like a weak chase scene in this anticipation thriller. Cast includes Edward Asner, Don Tangles, Gary Dirties, Tim Conway, Freedom Williams, Dick Minivan Patten, and Dick Butkus. (96 minutes,’76)

Lawyer Man: Powell is aces in this entertaining drama as an ambitious attorney, with an eye for the chicks, who tangles with crooked congressmen. Blondell is his dependable, lovesick secretary. Powell even talks Yiddish in this one. Cast includes William Powell, Joan Blondell, Claire Dodd, Sheila Terry, Alan Dinehart, David Landau, Roscoe Karns, and Sterling Holloway. (72 minutes,’32)

Forgetting Sarah Marshall: Here is a romantic comedy set in a beautiful resort in Hawaii. After being dumped by his girlfriend Sarah, he finally decides to go to Hawaii to get over the loss. Unfortunately, when he goes to check in at the resort, the first person he sees is Sarah, and of course her new boyfriend.

Across the Universe: A young English boy comes to the US to find his father. On his search he finds, and falls in love with an American girl. Set in post Vietnam War US, this movie is really a vehicle to play a lot of Beatles music. Cast includes Julie Taymor. Evan Rachel Wood. Jim Sturgess, Joe Anderson, Dana Fuchs, Martin Luther McCoy. T. V. Carpio, Spencer Litf, Lisa Hogg, Bill Irwin, James Urbaniak, Dylan Baker, Joe Cocker, Bono, Salma Hayek, and Eddie Izzard all make appearances. (2007 Romance)

The Lost World; Jurassic Park: John Hammond has learned to bring dinosaurs back to life from their DNA. After an attempt at marketing viewing these dinosaurs goes terribly wrong, all the animals are killed and the island closed. The problem is that something has survived.

The Sinister Urge: Devoted cops Duncan and Moore set out to bash the “smut film racket,” which is run by a brassy blond who inscribes with a 4-foot quill pencil. One of Wood’s least known works illustrates with complete conviction how photographs of fat ladies in their underwear are the principal cause of adolescent delinquency. Cast includes Kenne Duncan, Duke Moore, Carl Anthony, Jean Fontaine, Dino Fantini, and Jeanne Willardson. (75 minutes,’60)

Halloween: Sixteen years ago, at the age of ten, Michael Myers was put in prison for slaughtering his stepfather, his sister, and her boyfriend. He has escaped from prison, and is headed back to Haddonfield with vengeance on his mind. Dr. Sam Loomis is frantically trying to track him down. He knows the true evil that exists in Michael.
