If you are a spa owner and want to cut costs in caring and maintaining your spa and hot tubs, here are some basic steps you can take to ensure that your spa is clean, well-maintained and keep your customers satisfied. Even if you are not running a business and are only using the hot tub for personal uses, you will also need to know some of the basics in cleaning out the hot tub and keeping the water clean and hygienic for all users.
The first step you need to take is to use an appropriate sanitizer for your hot tub water. There are different types of sanitizers available in the market such as Chlorine, Bromine, Biguanide, Ozone and Mineral Spa Care for you to choose from. Chlorine is the most common one as it is also used in swimming pools although it is also available for hot tubs. However, you can choose to use Bromine as it is known to be quite effective even in high temperatures and will not produce strong odors like chlorine will.
Alternatively, you can go for Biguanide that works by killing bacteria in the water. If you choose to use Ozone, do note that it is not exactly a sanitizer but an oxidizer and is best to combine its use with other sanitizers. The Mineral Spa Care system is also to supplement the effectiveness of your sanitizers so do not only use this without the sanitizers but it is great to reduce the level of chlorine or bromine in the water.
Secondly, you must always remember to change your hot tub water. You may be using sanitizers and hot tub chemicals to keep the water clean and hygienic but you still need to change the water once a month or once in two months, depending on how often it was used. Certainly, you would not want to soak in water that’s been there for ages.
Other than that, you must also remember to clean out the hot tub filter each month. You must not forget to use filter cleaners to clean it out because the filter is important to keep your tub clean. It will not be able to do its job well if it is not cleaned out properly. Just take it out, clean it with a filter cleaner, let it dry and put it back and it will do its magic in filtering the water of your tub.
Lastly, you must also check on the pH levels of the water in your tub. You need to make sure it is balanced, as in not too acidic or alkaline by using a pH test strip. If the water is too acidic, it may irritate your skin and also damage the surface of your tub. If is it too alkaline, it may cause scaling and result in staining your tub’s surface. You only need to use pH balancing agents to balance the pH of the water. So, just follow these simple steps to clean and care for your spa and hot tub and you will have wonderful relaxing time soaking in clean, clear hot water all the time.
