Chemical skin care products are really not as safe as they should be. For instance, isopropyl alcohol is an extremely drying and irritating solvent that is found in many cosmetics and skin care products. Unfortunately, what it accomplishes is to dry your skin and do away with its natural acid mantle. This in turn makes your skin highly susceptible to viruses, molds and bacteria. Anything made from propylene will have been derived from petroleum and thus may encourage the premature aging of your skin and even bring forth brown spots.
Propylene based ingredients are extracted from petroleum and this can produce premature aging and discoloration in the skin. These types of substances are not the only problems that have been noted. There are others that can irritate the skin and worsen skin sensitivities. Colorings and dyes such as C, D and F are also petroleum products and they are all skin irritants.
Mineral oil is another often used ingredient in many skin care formulas. This is another petroleum related product, and it clogs the pores of the skin and keeps it from breathing. When mineral oil is applied to the surface of the skin it stops the elimination of cellular wastes and starves the cells of oxygen. This will spur the development of many unwanted skin conditions, including zits and acne. As a result new cell growth is hampered and this can lead to wrinkles and other premature aging signs.
Petrolatum is another of the petroleum by-products and is heavily used by the skin care industry because it is cheap and readily available. One reason that many people are using formulas and creams that contain these dangerous compounds is that the long, scientific names for each of them render them nearly unrecognizable. An ordinary person scanning the ingredients list on many of the so called “natural skin care”.
Perhaps if we were all well trained dermatologists and skin specialists we would know how to handle these types of issues. This type of training might also keep us out of the sun. By now almost everyone has seen the brown, creased skin that many sunbathers are dealing with. It is important to know that skin damage to a doctor means wrinkles, premature aging, skin cancers, dermatological problems and a lowered response to infection threats. All of these concerns are escalating throughout the country as more and more patients flock to their dermatologist’s offices.
Surely we’ve all seen the dark leathery skin that some sun worshipers have? You should be aware though that when referring to skin damage doctors mean damage that includes wrinkles, but also lowered immunity against infection, unnaturally aging skin disorders, dermatitis and even cancer and all of them are becoming more and more common.
You should always investigate the ingredient names on the labels of any skin care product that is advertised as “natural”. There are safe and effective products available that are created from natural, organic substances. You can support these products with your patronage and purchases. When you refuse to spend any money on dangerous products that contain toxic chemicals you will help force them off the market.
It cannot be emphasized too much that we need to replace our uses of toxic skin products, and instead use 100% pure and natural products, especially when it concerns our skin care products. These will contain essential oils, herbs and completely natural ingredients that actually will not only save our skin from premature aging, but will also keep us away from all the skin disorders that Doctors and dermatologists are seeing more and more of.
